Just spent a wonderful couple of hours watching the 'Vivienne Westwood: Punk, Icon' film at the cinema. What an extraordinary character she is. When asked if she wanted to talk about the Sex Pistols, she replied, "Oh no, I'm not fucking talking about that." A true tale of the triumph of the underdog, whether that be against the snobby Fashion industry establishment or the philistine audience on the Wogan show, who openly ridiculed her incredible designs. And the best moment of the film? For me it was when one of her models said how Vivienne Westwood's clothes and influence had completely changed her life, as she felt that after meeting her she could dress in a style that reflected her own inner life in a way that made her more confident & able to take on the world.
Amen to that.
I raise a toast to Vivienne Westwood: one of punk's true individuals.
